Now 14 years old, Shanna has signed a deal with South Africa’s largest Christian music distribution Company, Integrity Media Africa. Nurden Cross, the company Director, was astonished at her beautiful voice and the song writing ability Shanna displayed on the very “basic” demo she sent in. “Over the years I’ve listened to thousands of new artist demos. Shanna’ three songs totally blew me away and must rate as almost the best demo I’ve ever received. It not just that she’s young but the quality of both her voice and her original songs would have grabbed my attention even if she was thirty.” says Cross, “We at Integrity are looking forward to a long and exciting journey with Shanna and have great expectations for her future.”
Although Shanna is young, her experience far outweighs some mature artists. Shanna has performed in countless eisteddfods, many live shows with Rozanne, as well as singing in her church’s worship band and in her high school band “G for J”. Shanna is completely focussed on a successful music career, and looks forward to touring locally and internationally. Shanna’s short term goal is fulfilling her dream of recording a solo full length album. Shanna writes songs that inspire one to live life to the full and to never give up. Her underlying intention is to help people see the bright side, even when things look impossible! “I attempt to convey the message of a typical teenager through my songs. They could be energetic, happy and wild, or sad and sometimes they have questions and doubts”, says Shanna.
Signing as a singer and songwriter with Integrity Africa brings with it Shanna’s first project, iShine Southern Starz, where she’ll join two new young Integrity artist signings, Courtney Jonas, and Connell Cruise as they perform to the youth around South Africa. This division of America’s tween ministry, iShine, is now reaching South African shores, and will be flighting on Dstv’s ONE Gospel soon. iShine is a healthy alternative for children to experience media in a way that is safe for their minds and hearts. Media is the language of our time, central to kids and the emerging pop culture found in every sphere of life.
There is no doubt Shanna, will become a fixture on the local music scene, especially once iShine airs on One Gospel from the 3rd June 2011. Keeping her feet firmly on the ground Shanna says “Practice hard and if it’s really what you want to do, then go for it, trust in God and never give up! Ultimately, success is being happy and fulfilled in what you do. I want to remain loyal to my own beliefs and to stay pure and down to earth while enjoying my career!” concludes Shanna.
